Blue Light Collaboration Seminars.

Blue Light Collaboration Seminars.

PSTAX and CRS VAT Consulting are delighted to announce the

2018 Blue Light Collaboration Tax Seminars

Because of the Policing and Crime Act 2017, the police, fire and rescue, and emergency ambulance services now

have a duty to collaborate. Already, there are many examples of collaboration, which include:

–          Co-location for command and control, HQ, back office functions;

–          Capital resource rationalisations, such as fleet, buildings, and equipment; and

–          Shared back-office services (legal, procurement, HR, finance, etc.).

However, while it is recognised that successful blue light collaboration faces various obstacles, taxation is frequently overlooked or disregarded.

The taxation obstacles – VAT, employment taxes, SDLT and (to a lesser extent, corporate taxes) – cannot be managed retrospectively and must be considered at the earliest stages of any planned collaboration project or arrangement. Too often, the taxation consequences are ignored, assumed to be neutral or given attention only belatedly and by non-specialists.

This seminar will address the potential VAT issues around blue light collaboration.

There are three main factors behind most issues:

–          the different VAT regimes that govern Ambulance Trusts and Police and Fire bodies:

–          assumptions about previous VAT treatment continuing unchanged in collaboration projects; and

–          a general misunderstanding about the ongoing VAT compliance and efficiency requirements for public bodies.

VAT must be considered as an integral part of planning for blue light collaboration; the consequences for neglect can jeopardise collaboration projects or significantly increase their costs.

A PSTAX employment taxes specialist will also be available at the seminars to answer questions on Employment Taxes issues relating to Blue Light collaboration such as dual workplace and emergency vehicles, should they arise.

CRS

CRS is made up of a dedicated team of specialist NHS VAT advisers who have extensive knowledge and experience of the VAT issues facing the NHS. Providing day-to-day assistance with VAT enquiries, assistance and advice on setting up contracts and tailored VAT training workshops focused on specific or general NHS VAT issues, their team, who are from within the global accounting industry and HM Revenue & Customs, aim to provide an all encompassing VAT service for their NHS clients.

CRS VAT Consulting is registered with the Chartered Institute of Taxation as a firm of Chartered Tax Advisers. This means their clients have peace of mind in the fact that they are dealing with suitably trained and qualified advisers.

With an 100% success rate of improving their client’s VAT savings, as well as savings result from ‘secondary’ reviews of areas previously reviewed by competitors, CRS aim to maximise VAT recovery on a regular basis, and to help minimise VAT liabilities and errors, which could result in penalties with VAT recovery and compliance services that are flexible and tailored to the needs of their clients.

PSTAX and CRS have a similar ethos with client needs and the provision of the highest quality advice at the heart of both businesses. Acting on this, the two consultancy firms have come together to bring new specialisms to their existing clients and offer more services without compromising the tailored solutions, pragmatic advice and peace of mind that they both currently offer.
