PSTAX at the SLCC National Conference: VAT Support for Town and Parish Councils

The Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) National Conference at Hinckley Island was a resounding success, and we were proud to be part of this event as SLCC partners via membership to our VAT helpline. Our Indirect Taxes Consultants, Trevor Steel and Chris Kerry, represented PSTAX and offered specialised VAT advice and support tailored to the needs of town and parish councils.
As the conference unfolded, Trevor and Chris provided guidance on various VAT challenges faced by local councils. A key highlight was our VAT drop-in surgery, where delegates had the chance to meet with our experts with their VAT questions including personalised advice on VAT treatment of capital projects, sports facilities, allotments, burials, and community centres. These one-on-one sessions proved to be invaluable for providing solutions to the councils.
Our stand saw plenty of foot traffic, with dozens of attendees entering our prize draw to win a copy of “VAT Guide for Town and Parish Councils“, authored by our Associate Director, Richard Strevens. This must-have guide is an essential resource for council clerks, offering detailed insights on VAT implications for the various services councils manage. The lucky winner of the book was Haddenham Parish Council Clerk, Sue Gilbert. Congratulations to Sue!
In addition to our drop-in sessions, we had insightful conversations with delegates about a range of VAT topics and shared details about our upcoming Town and Parish Councils VAT training course, launching in early 2025. The level of interest in our training programs was inspiring, with many councils keen to expand their knowledge on VAT matters.
The event also had its fun moments! During the SLCC dinner raffle, Trevor Steel was delighted to win a fantastic A4 bespoke embroidery, generously donated by Michael’s Civic Robes.
We thoroughly enjoyed connecting with council representatives and discussing their VAT needs. At PSTAX, we remain committed to supporting local councils with expert tax advice. Thank you to everyone who visited our stand and engaged with us!
