We are pleased to be hosting a special 90-minute pop-up training session on Emergency Services VAT.

Police and Fire & Rescue Authorities fall under the same VAT recovery rules as local authorities. However, because of the particular services they provide, there are special rules around the VAT treatment of income and the recovery of VAT on costs.

Understanding how those rules apply in practice is important. This area can involve a wide range of activities and transactions, and getting the VAT position right helps authorities take the correct approach to both income and expenditure.

This online training course will introduce the basic VAT recovery powers that Police and Fire & Rescue Authorities can use to enable almost full VAT recovery. It will also look at a number of the more specialist areas where VAT issues commonly arise in practice.

Key topics in the Emergency Services VAT training include:

  • purchase or lease of emergency service vehicles
  • supply/secondment of staff
  • covert expenditure
  • collaboration with other blue light bodies
  • sharing of facilities
  • sale of seized goods
  • provision of training

Who will benefit from attending this Emergency Services VAT training?

This course will be relevant to officers working in Police and Fire & Rescue Authorities who need to understand the VAT treatment of income and costs, including those involved in finance and VAT matters.
