    All bookings are provisional until they have been confirmed in writing by ourselves. Confirmation will be dispatched within 7 days of the receipt of a completed booking form.   Authorities booking 3 or more places will be entitled to a 10% discount.


    Invoices must be paid in full by no later than:

    28 days following their date of issue.

    Cancellations – Residential Course

    More than 21 days : no payment due

    21-8 days : 50% of course fee

    7 days or less : full fee

    Substitutions are permitted at any time

    Cancellations – Single Day Courses

    More than 15 working days : no payment due

    14-7 working days : £100.00 cancellation charge

    6 working days or less : full fee

    Training Materials

    Training materials provided by us during the course are for the sole benefit of the course participant. They must not be photocopied, scanned, faxed or otherwise distributed without our prior written permission. All intellectual rights remain the property of LAVAT Consulting Limited.

    Limitation of Liability

    In the unlikely event of a course not taking place as scheduled, and for whatever reason, the financial liability of LAVAT Consulting Limited  to each participant shall be limited to the value of monies paid by that participant for attendance on the course.


    Employment status and the off payroll working rules are areas of huge risk, as evidenced by the multi-million pound HMRC settlements and penalty charges the public sector has seen in the past year. Our local authority clients frequently tell us that this is an issue that often causes problems for schools in particular. Incorrect decisions made when looking at whether someone providing a service to the school should be treated as employed for tax and National Insurance purposes can leave the school and the authority open to compliance action from HMRC. Therefore, this course will enable local authorities to invite key school staff to receive practical training in this key area.

    What’s covered

    We will take attendees through the employment status and off payroll working rules and how to use the Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool. Also, the steps that must be taken to inform the worker and intermediary of the outcome, the Status Determination Statement (SDS) and the disagreement process will all be made clear. This will be a practical course with the emphasis on case studies for types of engagements particular to schools: consultants, music teachers, sports coaches, counsellors, educational psychologists, supply teachers, maintenance and repairs and IT workers.

    We would recommend this training for Headteachers, Bursars, Clerks, Finance Staff and Governors. The training is also suitable for those staff within the authority who have responsibility for the central school’s finance function.

    The cost of each 2 hour training session is £1,350 plus VAT, per authority. The optimum number of delegates for this training is 30 (which can be from a number of schools).

    Discounts will be given for those organisations booking more than one session, dependent on the number of sessions.
